BCA Introduces New Crisis Management Committee
(2019) BCA National President Link Newcomb and Executive Committee have recently appointed Dr. Melisa Walker, of Alabama, as chairperson of the new Ad Hoc Crisis Management Committee. Previously, the BCA Communications Committee asked the council to consider creating an Ad Hoc Crisis Management Committee to evaluate needed resources and potential funding and to establish BCA procedures to ensure adequate care for dogs in emergencies.
The Communications Committee often finds the BCA in the position of protecting our breed and our members. Over the past several years many of our Divisions have been impacted by hurricanes, fires, mudslides and floods, earthquakes and even personal disasters. The Crisis Management Committee will help assure adequate care for dogs in emergencies.
This new committee will be responsible for the creation of centralized guidelines for each Division to:
1) provide emergency aid for our Bulldogs and their owners in crisis;
2) counter attacks by animal rights groups when breeders and owners have problems; and
3) provide improved public relations for BCA in the event of emergencies.
The committee will present their findings to the council this fall and go forward in years to come with support for each Division.
